Emacs enthusiasm
In the last few months, I've become much more enthusiastic about emacs. I've been a user for about a decade - but a combination of factors has sent me way deeper into the emacs universe... Recently - that's come up in 2 fun ways:
VOMPECCC Engagement
My favorite part of using emacs is how powerful and deeply integrated the completion frameworks are. Recently, Mr. Chiply, an active member of the emacs community has written an amazing 6 part series of blog posts that explore a set of packages that work together to make what is essentially the "command palette" in emacs superpowered.
I've been engaging with his posts on reddit - and a comment of mine made it's way into the actual blog post :).

I've also been amped up about the world cup -- and have vibed a world-cup.el
Here's a demo:
Sunset Fire
I took a photo that was featured on Mission Local. https://missionlocal.org/2026/05/sunset-fire/.
You can send any picture to info@missionlocal.com and sometimes they'll publish them. My friend Jake is a frequent contributor.

Site Overhaul
Finally bit the bullet and updated from (elm-pages)[https://elm-pages.com/] V1 to V3. This was no small feat, and I was dreading it for a while. The mental model is quite different. I mentioned back when I was on a podcast about The Elm Language in 2023 -- that I worried about the day I'd have to do this, and the time finally came.
The old one is still available at 2026.aaronstrick.com.
Here's some of the interesting changes.
URL schemes
Everything is top level now. Things are no longerposts/<post-slug>/ but instead are just /<post-slug>. The categorizations always felt a little unnecessary and unforced, and I was inspired by some of the ideas here: https://sive.rs/su
I didn't want to give a bunch of 404s though for old links, so now I have a "Link Rot Redirect Page". For example, - here's this page with the old schema (/update/update-2026-06-16)[/update/update-2026-06-16]
Typography
I spent some time making the spacing nicer and more consistent across the site. It was always a bit off. But also - I'm now using (Averia)[http://iotic.com/averia/] as the font. I give it a B+ in terms of reading experience, but the concept is too good -- it's the average of all other fonts!
Probably more!
I've been doing the migration slowly... There are surely more changes I forget.
Bubbles Plug:
I also toss out a note about enjoying bubbles.town lately. It's a great place to discover blogs.
